Mouse Entry Point Sealing and Rodent Control — Richmond Hill

Job Overview

Location: Richmond Hill, Ontario
Structure: Detached two-storey house with double garage
Problem: Mouse activity reported inside the home
Service: Mouse treatment and exterior exclusion
Visits: 4

Summary

We responded to reports of interior mouse activity at a detached residential property in Richmond Hill. The service involved a multi-visit rodent control program combining interior treatment and exterior exclusion to address active mice and reduce future entry risk.

Background / Property Context

The home is a two-storey detached structure with a finished exterior foundation and multiple utility and vent penetrations. Landscaping and foundation grade placed several exterior features close to ground level, creating potential access points for rodents.

Customer Concern

The homeowner reported ongoing mouse activity inside the house and requested inspection, treatment, and guidance on preventing further entry.

Inspection & Findings

During the initial inspection, our technician identified multiple exterior vulnerabilities consistent with mouse entry, including gaps around wall vents, utility penetrations, and foundation openings. Activity levels inside the home indicated an established mouse presence.

Based on site conditions, exterior entry points were considered a contributing factor to continued interior activity.

Cause Analysis

Mouse activity was attributed to accessible exterior openings around vents and utility lines, combined with ground-level foundation gaps. These features can allow mice to enter wall cavities and interior spaces, particularly as temperatures change and food sources are sought indoors.

Treatment / Removal

A licensed exterminator carried out mouse control in accordance with Ontario Ministry of the Environment guidelines. Tamper-resistant bait stations containing commercial-grade rodenticide were installed in areas of identified activity. Stations were monitored and serviced across follow-up visits, with bait replenished as required based on consumption and reported activity.

Exclusion & Repairs

Following continued monitoring, the homeowner approved targeted exclusion work. This included:

  • Sealing two exterior wall vents using galvanized steel vent cages
  • Sealing one utility line penetration with silicone sealant and galvanized steel mesh

These measures were intended to block existing access points while maintaining proper vent function.

Outcome & Confirmation

After completion of treatment and exclusion, the homeowner reported no further interior mouse activity. A final inspection confirmed that exclusion materials remained secure and no new entry points were observed. The service concluded with activity resolved.

Technician Notes

The work was completed over four visits to allow for inspection, treatment follow-up, and exclusion timing. Technician Blerti noted that exterior sealing played a key role in resolving recurring activity once treatment was underway.
